Final Thought

Looking at the future can be quite daunting. All of the problems the human race must deal seem to be exponentially growing like in the population. With the future bringing a larger population that needs to be fed, the agriculture sector will have a greater burden to try and feed the people that are not able to grow food for his or her own self. Another sector that will carry much burden is the water sector, water bottling companies will have a pressure on them to provide water for ones who will not be able to do it for themselves. Petroleum will spiral out of control, so car companies must find alternative sources that will be cheaper and more efficient to utilize. Looking past all of the bad things there is good. Society is becoming more aware of the world as a whole. The super powers are putting forth an effort to make life better for everyone. There are less major wars. Countries across the globe are looking to help others in need. The world economy is starting to look past the money it costs to do something, and they are doing what is right to provide for as many people as they can. Opposing sides of arguments provide solutions to problems even though they have their own agenda.

Strive for less consumption.

There is a need for less consumption across the planet. The reason for this is the strain it is putting on the earth. The climate is changing significantly from year to year. It might be because people do not realize his or her consumption in the grand scheme of things. If every person used one less liter of gas every year, it would be astronomical. The decreased amount of emissions would ease the strain on the planet in ways that might be detrimental to the existence of the human race. Society should consider using less resources in general especially the people living the high life, a.k.a. the ones who own a private get and fly when and where they want. People, who live so luxuriously, are often unhappy and ungrateful for the substances they have right in front of them. Rich people wake up and see what you are doing.

What if there would be one more dollar to be had?

•December 9, 2009 • Leave a Comment

What would a person do just to have one more dollar to spend on luxuries? It depends on the personality of the person and how desperate they are to have that one more dollar. There are people who are willing to give up that dollar for an amount of time to spend doing other things. I am a person that will work for that dollar even though it is not needed. It will be put away for a rainy day and used on something needed to accommodate my everyday life. Working with a group of people it is interesting to see how people take a job which helps them get by compared to the people who take it and don’t want to be there. It is frustrating to see people who need jobs and are willing to work and the ones who do not care whether they have money to live on or not. People should not take the gifts they receive in life and be ungrateful, but it is done regardless.

Petroleum and Water

As talked about in class, I believe that water and petroleum will be on the forefront of the global economy putting pressure on countries to revert to other resources to power the massive amounts of industry.  The major powers of the world are attempting to solve the issues of the depleting resources.  This is a start, but more efforts need to be taken to develop other renewable resources that will cause little to no emissions. A cleaner fuel will clean up the earth’s atmosphere and start to reverse the damage that has been caused.  The United States, being the world leader as it is, should lead the revolution of renewable energy.  It is up to the world to change its ways to make lives better for our children.

Indian Speech

Gary Rowland, a blood line of chief Red Cloud, presented information on the Wounded Knee Massacre.  It was a very rich in information about the history of Wounded Knee. Gary talked in a manner that I never experienced before slow and cyclical. He did eventually get to a point. The point he eventually ended with was that you can do anything you want as long as you put the effort and mind to it. It was interesting to here about how the Indian culture is very family oriented.  Listening to Gary speak about the elderly made me believe that they were the wise and were treated with the upmost respect.  The Indian culture is quite fascinating.  People should respect their culture and learn from it.

China

China is the fastest developing country in the world today. Knowing this, it is easy to forecast that the Chinese will be the number one country in the world within the decade. The forum in old main was very interesting to hear the statistics come from people of the Chinese culture. China’s sustainability will be hard to maintain due to the massive population size. The amount of resources that will be needed for this population to survive and thrive will put the planet in a state of absolute threshold. Meaning that using the amount of resources needed to fuel this country will push the planet to the very limits of whether it will be able to keep sustaining life or not. I think the one child policy is detrimental to the world’s outcome. China holding one fifth the population of the world is quite mind boggling. With that many people to put into cars and fuel them would strip the resources of the world in a real short amount of time. This would also raise the price of everything putting the third world countries deeper into poverty and putting strain on the economies of the world. It will be interesting to see what is going to happen in this lifetime. Maybe it will happen in December of 2012.

Smug Alert!

In the smug episode of South Park, the truth of how people act when they are fortunate enough to have an income to support a lifestyle above and beyond most in the United States is supported by this episode.  Many people believe that all people should live the green lifestyle, but the reality is only the ones with the money can live the perfect green lifestyle.  To the people who are just trying to make it in the short term, the long term of having a nest egg to retire on is put in a bubble that is never looked at.  People today are full of themselves.  Like in the episode, all people can smell are themselves, and shun the people that do not live the way they do.  One of the interesting things about the U.S. culture is no one is really content with what they have in front of them and often lose sight of what is important.  Society is so worried about keeping up with the Jones’s, they look past the important aspects of their lives.

What About the Middle Man?

•November 1, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Distances between the social classes have caused society turmoil. The poor witness the rich getting richer. The poor observe the poor getting poorer. What about the middle population. The ones that receive no help trying to make ends meet.  Where is the government for the people that are unable to afford insurance just to stay afloat? A majority of the working class falls in this category. The people that work the hardest and play the least seem doomed to being stuck in the middle. The rich get the tax breaks. The poor get the opportunities to go to school and better themselves, but many of them decide to live what they know and be “ok” with it. It is nearly impossible to feel sorry for the ones who make a million dollars and still barely break even. Is it possible to feel sorry for the ones who sit and watch television because they will not take that job at McDonalds or be a garbage man because it demeans them pushing themselves further into poverty? I think not. The middle class should be praised and given opportunities to rise to the upper class. That would be unrealistic though. Why help the ones who seem to be doing “ok”? I do not know. Not many realize the middle class fuels the economy and provides the force for the rich to stay in the upper class. This class also tries to help pull the poor out of their rut to make themselves better. The middle class is the forgotten class that no one worries about. Government should take a step back and analyze the true issues of America, not just the extremes.

Individualism

•September 24, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Individualism is the key to having a community. There would be no community without individuals. So, in essence, the foundation of community is every individual that is part of that community. They all have their own agendas, but when they come together as a collective whole with a purpose they create a community with each other. People worry to much about how to make the community better or who to have be apart of it. When they should just let the people make their own choices, and eventually communities will arise through a natural process of human interaction and communication. Not putting pressure on the issue would allow the opportunity for true friendships to evolve that would otherwise not be there. Individualism is great, and the United States would not be where it is today if it were not for individualism.
